Young Prospect Turn Heads in Maple Leafs Camp

The Toronto Maple Leafs hope that Easton Cowan is taking a big step this season. So far, the signs are all that this can be a breakout campaign. The attacker packed on seven pounds of muscles in the summer and feels like he is ready to insist on a job with the team.

Cowan has praised a lot during the training camp, not only for his performance on the ice, but also for his growth as a teammate.


Colleague -magazine Matthew Byies was quickly single Cowan Out as the player who made the most impression on him. “He has grown as a player and person,” said Byies. “He has become a lot better, much faster, and that is nice to see. He is more comfortable with the boys. Be sure to talk a bit more, and that is a good thing.”

Cowan showed signs in London of the OHL last season that he could be close by. However, teammates and coaches note a new level of maturity and speed in his game. Maybe even at an unexpected level.

Head coach Craig Berube echoed the sentiment of Byies and praised both Cowan and defender Ben Danford for their recent game. “I loved their games in Ottawa,” said Berube. “I thought Easton played a real direct game, did a number of good things. Danford has great feet. He is very composed for a young child. He has made some real fun outlet passes. He is simple.”

For a team that looks at attackers who have the opportunity to step in and to contribute offensively, someone like Cowan is about to be a productive Nhler huge. His growing confidence with the puck and chemistry with teammates was able to put him firmly in the mix for a selection place.
