Yoane Wissa signed for Newcastle United on Deadline Day.
That official announcement on Monday 1 September 2025 after the person who revealed that Alexander Isak had forced his transfer to Liverpool.
I was not surprised by much of the negativity of outsiders with regard to the Newcastle United Capture of Yoane Wissa.
After all, this is the norm of the national media that Newcastle United is concerned and on this summer in no time more than this summer.
However, I was surprised when I saw negativity from some fans of Newcastle United in the direction of the signing of Yoane Wissa.
I think this needs some clarification. What the former Striker of Brentford revolves and why he is absolutely cracking signing sessions for NUFC.
Most of the negativity I have seen surrounds the age of Wissa.
Yoane Wissa at the age of 28 when he signed on the first day of the month, but then 29 became on 3 September 2025.
I think if you did not know their respective ages and only on the way was that the media reported this aspect, I think you would be surprised that Yoane Wissa is only three years older than Alexander Isak. The way in which the media present the two signing sessions (all negative for Newcastle, all positive for Liverpool), you would think that Wissa was on his last legs and on the way out! Isak was 25 when signing for Liverpool last Monday, but becomes 26 in 13 days (September 21, 2025).
But enough about the past this is all about Yoane Wissa.
With the age thing I think that some fans of Newcastle United are confusing two things when they come to a quick (wrong) conclusion.
The negativity when buying a 28-year-old striker of 28 (very soon 29) is purely about the longer term.
The reported £ 50 million (plus possible future £ 5 million add -ons) costs for Yoane Wissa, the striker will immediately be deterred in value in value due to his age. So in a year that he is 29 (soon 30), nobody will offer Newcastle United £ 50 million (or more) to buy Wissa (there, within a year, would someone pay £ 130 million or more for an soon 27 Alexander Isak?).
This is where Newcastle United has deviated from their usual transfer policy of buying only Outfield players younger than 25. Since the Emergency Degency Fighting First window of January 2022, Eddie Howe and NUFC have only bought outfield players from Harvey, with an exception.
This was continued this summer, with Ramsey, Woltemade, Thiaw and Elanga all younger than 25 years.
The reasoning is that Newcastle United hopes that, like these younger signing sessions that improve on the field after signing, they also improve their appreciation. So if they leave for whatever reason, United will hopefully get a higher transfer costs than they have paid to invest new players again.
This is perfectly illustrated by the genius of Eddie Howe to insist on paying the club £ 63 million for Alexander Isak as a 22 -year -old, then three years later £ 130 million.
Yoane Wissa was of course the big exception to the standard this summer when it came to the transfer policy and the activity of Newcastle.
Wissa will not increase in the valuation of the field, but this does not mean that he will immediately write off in value and effectiveness !!!
Yoane Wissa has reportedly signed a four -year contract and I see no reason why he will be a Premier League of the good quality for at least four years. No reason why he will not be able to perform at that level at the age of 32.
I think especially with his physique, 5FT 9 and looks just as fit as a Whippet, he can remain in good condition at Newcastle United at least these first four years.
His appreciation will fall off, but that is only a concern for club financing in the longer term. However, it is a limited care, because if you are talking about the strange exception to buy a more mature player in his Prime, that is very different from clubs that are as a routine to buy players in their late 2S/early thirty.
What we have to concentrate on is that Eddie Howe has succeeded in signing a squat player and goal scorer who can hit the ground for Newcastle United. While Nick Woltemade needs more careful handling to adapt and go to the Premier League level.
In 35 Premier League performances last season, Yoane Wissa scored 19 goals for unmodible Brentford. Most goals scored by a PL player in 2024/25 who have not taken penalties.
WISSA has scored 45 Premier League goals in his four seasons with Brentford, while playing 8,315 in minute (statistics via Whoscored), with an average of a goal every 184 PL minutes. Just a shadow over a goal every two minutes.
However, that only tells a part of the story, because Yoane Wissa did not play in the middle in about half of his start for Brentford. Left wings play, number 10 and so on, a very versatile attacking player, Ivan Toney among those who played center-in-front instead.
Even better, if you look at the more recent statistics, you look, as soon as Yoane Wissa played mainly through the middle, but just look at the statistics.
Remember that none of these penalties are. If you look at the 2024/25 season and the later phases of the 2023/24 one, the last 48 Premier League performances Yoane Wissa score 27 PL goals have seen.
If you are still not convinced of this Yoane Wissa signing, I don’t know what will make an impression on you.
