Yankees re-sign Amed Rosario to $2.5 million contract to fill righty need

The Yankees haven’t made any major moves yet this season, but they have added a piece to their offense and agreed to a deal to bring back Amed Rosario, The Post confirmed.

Rosario will remain in The Bronx on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

The 30-year-old landed in a trade with Washington last July and provided the left-heavy Yankee lineup with a professional bat from the right side as well as defensive versatility.

He will play a similar role this season after posting an .819 OPS against left-handed pitching last season.

Rosario isn’t a standout on defense, but the Yankees trusted him enough to start him in playoff games at second and third base.

They still have left-hander Ryan McMahon at third, who struggles against lefties and strikes out a lot, but gives the Yankees the best defensive option at third.

With Ben Rice in first place, Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second (at least for now) and Jose Caballero taking over for Anthony Volpe at shortstop, while Volpe recovers from offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, the Yankees infield will be able to use Rosario’s versatility.
