Minneapolis – Luke Weaver did not lose the game for the Yankees on Monday evening, but he didn’t make it easier for them to try to win.
And after he was tagged for five runs while he had recorded one in the seventh inning of what was a 7-0 loss for the twins, he also tried not to make his outing sugar.
“That was waste,” said Weaver.
The last time he was on the hill before Monday, Weaver got two huge strikeouts to beach a few hereditary runners in Saturday’s victory, a scene that has reminds us of his best self in the past two seasons.
But the Reliever has had some hiccups lately, and gave up at least one point in four of his last six trips while trying to get back on the right track for the play -offs on time.
The problems of Monday at least had to do with his mechanics while giving up three hits and two free walks.
“The body was just not on time,” Weaver said. “It was not tailored to what I tried to do and do. I felt that I was moistening myself all the time. Mentally I just tried to overcome it, have a good mindset and stay in myself. Those two things just didn’t come together.
“I have no pain or something in that sense. It is just an energy, a lack of togetherness with the body. Those things happen. But it is just unforgivable. We have to find a way to get it done and overcome that.”
Before he started on Monday, Carlos Rodón was named the Yankees nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award from 2025, a nod for the work he and Vrouw Ashley have done with their foundation that supports couples who undergo infertility and pregnancy loss.
“It’s definitely a great honor,” said Rodón. “Roberto was quite the ambassador for baseball. An incredible player on the field and a better person outside the field, who gave his time to help people and children.”
Rodón was one of the seven Yankees – together with David Bednar, Fernando Cruz, Paul Goldschmidt, Tim Hill, Aaron Judge (who won it in 2023) and Giancarlo Stanton – to wear no. 21 in honor of the former Pirates Hall of Famer and Humanarian.
“I think it’s time to retire, exactly what he meant by the baseball game and more importantly, who he was off the field,” said Bednar, who grew up in Pittsburgh and spent the last 4 ¼/₂ year with the Pirates.
After starting 11 consecutive games, including catching the series final on Sunday evening against the Red Sox, Ben Rice was out of the line-up on Monday before he caught and catch the eighth inning.
“He probably probably played as much as everyone else,” said Boone. “Because he is aware of this time of the year, he did not play much. [in previous years] And he catches on top. ”
Aaron Judge was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday after beating 9-out-20 (.450) with a 1,760 Ops and five home runs in six games.
