Yankees have a moment of silence before the first pitch against rays in honor of fallen NYPD officer

The New York Yankees had a moment of silence in honor of NYPD officer Didarul Islam before the first throw of Tuesday’s matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays.

“Before tonight’s game we held a moment of silence in Memoriam of the NYPD police officer Didarul Islam, who was killed tragically yesterday during the shooting in the Midtown,” the Yankees wrote on X.

An office building was the location of a massive shooting that left five dead, including Didarul, when a shooter fire inside before he took his own life.

The high -rise office tower is located at 52nd Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan, a town that the Bronx, the house of the Yankee Stadium, neighborhood.

“The entire Yankees organization sends its participation to his family and to the families of the other victims of this pointless act of violence,” concluded Yankees’s statement.

The Yankees followed the rays 3-0 in the third inning Tuesday evening.

Flags in government buildings in the city were placed on Tuesday at half staff in honor of Islam, confirmed the mayor Eric Adams of New York City.

The building where the shooting took place houses the headquarters of the NFL.

In a memo obtained by Fox News Digital, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that at least one NFL employee was “seriously injured”, but was mentioned in a stable state.

Goodell also thanked Islam for his sacrifice.

“We are the law enforcement officers who responded quickly and decisively to this threat deeply grateful and to Officer Islam, who gave his life to protect others,” said the memo.

The 36-year-old was four years before he was shot on Monday evening. He was a married father of two young boys and his wife is pregnant with their third child, said NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Islam was assigned to the 47th district of the NYPD in the Bronx. He was one of the two uniformed officers in the Avenue building park when the shooting took place.

The NYPD said that Islam “represented the very best in our department.”

“He protected New Yorkers against danger when his life was tragically demolished today,” added the NYPD. “We participate in prayer in this time of incomprehensible pain. We will honor his estate forever.”
