Toronto – No place served this season as the personal house of horrors of the Yankees, just like Rogers Center.
A large part of that is because their infield defense was essentially apart as soon as the foot stepped on Canadian soil – there, turf.
But from a wildcard series in which Yankees Infielers consistently delivered a high level, that will only assume more meaning, looming in their hope to start the Blue Jays in the ALS from Saturday in Rogers Center.
The Yankees went here with 1-6 during the regular season and made 11 mistakes in seven matches-11.7 percent of their mistakes in 4.3 percent of their matches.
But they had no Ryan McMahon, who provided excellent defense in one of those matches in one of those matches.
Jazz Chishholm Jr. Also no longer plays out of position at third base, Jasson Domínguez is now being degraded to a bench roll, and Anthony Volpe broke out of his brutal defensive funk from the summer, which made the Yankees a sharp group with the shine.
‘Quite a bit [better]”Said Aaron Boone manager Friday before the Yankees worked in Rogers Center.” I mean, of course Anthony has been playing really well in recent months. It is clear what Mac has taken, Jazz is now full -time on second base. We have a good club. We have a good defense, impactful defenders. I still have to play well.
‘The times that we were here in the summer, [we weren’t] At our best certain and still because of some things. I feel that we have started playing very well in recent months. Unlike a few thoughts here, we are a really good team. ”
Boone referred to Blue Jays analyst and former old Catcher Buck Martinez and said last month that the Yankees were ‘not a good team’.
Martinez mentioned the Yankees who threw too many wild fields, made mistakes in the field, did not let the bases run well and have no chance to win if they don’t get home runs.
“He is wrong,” Boone said with a grin. “But it doesn’t matter. We have to play, and we have to perform, as everyone does this time of the year. We feel really good about our team. We are playing well. That is now in the past.
“We have to play well. We have the challenge of a new series against another really good team and a really good opponent who has earned the opportunity to wait for this first series.”
The Yankees are now a different team than the last time they were here (for two series in July), but the Blue Jays have the potential to still cause them some problems.
Their 17.8 percent strikeout percentage was the lowest of each team in the Majors during the regular season, which emphasized an ability to bring the ball into play and force the problem with their team speed.
That led to a few innings here in the summer when the Yankees suffered death with a thousand spending cuts, which partly did their own because they throw the ball around.
But the Yankees had also shot themselves against the Red Sox during the regular season, but cleaned up their act in the Wild-Card series, which helped only six runs over the three games.
“I think it was really good,” said McMahon about the Infield defense. “Of course Jazz makes that incredible play in the middle to save a run. [We’re] Take care of baseball, ensuring that we change hits into outs. ”
