Anthony Volpe’s sinking landed on the couch against the Red Sox on Sunday evening, and he was told that he will not be in the line -up in the line against Washington on Monday.
“I just found out,” Volpe said after being informed of a 7-2 victory over the Red Sox that he would be a second consecutive day from the line-up with a right-handed starter on the Heuvel-Voordat he would be expected to return to Washington Lefty Mackenzie Gore on Tuesday.
“It’s pretty raw,” Volpe said about the news. “As a competitor and someone who is proud to be there every day, take it on the chin and look at the positives. … It’s all on me.”
Prior to Sunday’s victory, Aaron Boone said that he chose to be full for the serial final because Volpe has deleted a little last week [or] 10 days. “
The manager also pointed to the presence of José Caballero, who offers the Yankees a different solid option.
Asked or Volpe would start on Monday when the Yankees organize the Nationals, Boone said, “We will see.”
Volpe entered Sunday’s game for the top of the eighth, when Caballero was moved to the right field to replace Giancarlo Stanton.
The Shortstop recently found the target of fans, especially during his current 1-out-28 piece that started when the Yankees started a road trip in St. Louis on 15 August.
He also made a throw error in the loss of Saturday against Boston and a mental crime when he threw Jarren Duran to try to get him on second base – instead of having the routine play to the first one in Friday’s defeat.
It is part of what a disappointing season has been for the 24-year-old, who has taken steps back in the Majors in his third year on both attack and defense.
“Just continue work,” Volpe said. “That is so much good work. That is what makes it frustrating. You have the feeling that you can contribute and help the team, but it is not discouraging because you know the work you do. I have to do what I have to do to contribute. It is clearly frustrating.”
His struggles left him with some of the worst figures in the Majors – and now two consecutive days from the line -up – while he is healthy.
“As a competitor and someone where all that is that I have known, you take it on the chin,” Volpe said. “I will benefit from all the opportunities I can do [get]. “
He acknowledged that the results are ‘bad’.
“The numbers are what they are,” said Volpe. “I don’t think you are defined by them. Every night you take it as it is. You either feel good about how you contributed [or not] And there are too many days that I don’t do. “
Boone said he does not believe that full was struck by the hard treatment of the crowd and his struggles.
“I think he is doing pretty well,” said Boone. “I don’t think he’s too much affected by those things. He is just a young player who finishes his tail. He is supercompetitive and tries to find the next level of consistency in his game. Mentally he is very cool and fully wired to tackle all the things accompanied by being a big league-league.”
Others are not so convinced.
“He definitely took a step back to the defense and I don’t know if that is the result that he is not hit or will be stuck well,” said the Al Scout. “He showed a lot last year when he did what he did in the play -offs, but he immediately went back to the same things he did wrong during the regular season.”
But it is the performance of Volpe in the field that is more careful for some scouts.
“At one point he will go back to a hot streak, but the field field is a concern,” said another already explorer, referring to the 11-game rack that had full at the end of July and early August, in which he had seven extra base hits. “I think he deteriorated last year and this one.”
Defensive statistics can be unreliable, but most agree that Volpe has its worst year in the field as a great leader.
Volpe is appreciated for his ability to play every day, but Boone noted that Tampa Bay Caballero gave the Roster more flexibility at the De Roster Handelsdeadline.
Boone also stated that Volpe was completely healthy.
But his swimming in the late season is not new. Volpe has a OPS of only .458 in September, probably a product of the impact of a long season – before his outbreak last October in the play -offs.
