A range of alternative fuel vehicles and TVs from Yamaha were on display at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) in Tokyo. The Iwata motorcycle manufacturer’s lineup is currently all in the prototype phase and includes mid-development prototypes, several electric and hybrid motorcycles, eBikes and electric wheelchair concept models, making a total of 16 vehicles, including six world premieres.

These include the Motoroid:A Lambda, Tricera, Proto BEV, Proto HEV and PHEV, and the H2 Buddy Porter Concept. The Motoroid self-balancing motorcycle has been in development before and the Motoroid:A represents the latest step in its evolution.

The Motoroid:A Lambda has a unique spinning motion in its frame and uses AI-assisted self-balancing and motion control so it can right itself if it falls. A self-learning algorithm learns through reinforcement, a technique usually reserved for AI systems that play video games or train robots.

Meanwhile, the Proto HEV comes with an electric motor and a combustion engine, allowing the rider to switch between gentle city driving and powerful road performance. A further development is the Proto PHEV, which can drive fully electric or in hybrid mode, while the Proto BEV is a test bed for a new large-capacity battery and a sound system that helps the rider feel what the engine is doing through audio signals.

There’s also the Tricera, Yamah’s version of the three-wheeler where all three wheels steer to reduce the turning circle and sharpen steering response. Yamaha is also continuing developments in hydrogen technology.

Also on display at JMS was the H2 Buddy Porter Concept, which was developed together with Toyota. This hydrogen scooter is designed for commercial city use and comes with a roof and a large storage box at the back.
