Elon goes all-in AI, with his XAI project that is now trying to compete with Meta, OpenAi, Google and others, by offering similar generative AI functions and tools, hosted within both X itself and the individual grok AI app.
The next incoming large element is the new image and the option for generating videos, which calls it ‘Imagin’.
And according to one New Splash screen in the Grok -appThat comes very quickly.
As you can see in this screenshot (posted by Jonah Manzano), Xai now informs grok -users that they can join the waiting list for “the fastest image and video generation experience.”
I mean, I am not sure if people really want the fastest tool on this front, but preferably the best tool for translating their text prompts into actual images and video.
Although Elon is also on that front trust, placing a video example of 6 seconds of the current generation model of Xai:
Elon is so convinced that people will like his new option ‘Imagine’, that he even claims that X Vine will effectively reduce in AI form through a coming inflow of AI-generated clips.
That can be interesting, I think, but it is not really the return of Vine as an introduction of another text video AI tool.
That will not be new, given that Google VEO offers the same while Openi” Meta And Tiktok all also develop their own text-to-video models.
Yet Elon always wants to preach his version as the best, and the leader of the peloton. And at the moment he could at least have any claim, given the amount of processing power that Xai apparently has been able to activate through his Colossus Data Center.
According to Musk, Xai is now active 230k Nvidia H100 GPUS In the various facilities, driving the latest grok models. The Nvidia chips have become an important part for AI development, and the more you have, the better the performance of your AI systems.
For comparison, Meta is reportedly round 350,000 NVIDIA H100 -chipsAlthough not all are available for Meta AI processing, while OpenAi has around 200k in operation.
So at the moment Xai could indeed have the most powerful AI models in operation, although it seems unlikely that this will remain the case, since Meta has more capacity and develops its own AI chips to further expand its systems.
Although the other company of Musk, Tesla, has done that too Signed a new deal with Samsung to develop adapted chipsWhat ultimately Musk could see working on his own variation thereof.
Although it still seems as if Xai are struggling to compete in the wider market, given the early movers obtained by OpenAi, and the almost unlimited capacity of Meta.
I was assumed that the ties of Musk with the US government, by his friendship with President Trump, would be the most important game in this area, with Xai being able to build adapted AI systems that meet the requirements of US government customers. But then Musk Trump and Trump has since threatened to reduce all government contracts with Musk’s companies.
So that apparently burned that bridge. But again, Xai entered into a $ 200 million contract with the Pentagon Only two weeks ago, so that the company will offer AI tools to the Ministry of Defense.
So perhaps all the stuff of Elon vs Trump will be exaggerated and Musk will still be able to take advantage of his involvement with the government to benefit his companies.
Without that, however, I don’t see why companies would stand in line to do business with Xai, given the various controversies about wrong information and coordination with Elon’s own opinion.
Yet Elon sees this clearly as an important chance, and he is now pushing hard to make Xai a larger project and to take advantage of the wider AI hype.
If that succeeds, Elon can be another big money winner, making the money in X, Tesla Robotics and more, while he pushes to lead the next technical phase.
But just like with all Musk projects, there must be a lot of good to train this.
The approach seems to work for him so far, but it always feels like it is hardly held together by Elon’s irrational trust.
