World No. 1 Lin Shidong won both games 3-0 when he easily moved to the quarterfinals during the WTT Champions Series event in Macao. Shidong faces Anders Lind who made Darko Jorgic up in the first round and then survived Chen Yuanyu in the round of 16.
Hugo Calderano stood against Dang Qiu on Friday to reach the quarters. The next enemy of Calderano is Patrick Franziska. A second German, Benedikt Duda, has also reached the quarters and he will be confronted with Jang Woojin. Woojin is the beneficiary of an early upset, where Tomokazu Harimoto fell for Xue Fei – which gave Woojin an easier road ahead. The last combination is between Wang Chuqin and Lin Yun-Ju-Beene were expected to reach so far, and neither of them has enabled an opponent to push them to a fifth game.
Kanak JHA of the US lost its opening match Dan Qiu- A disappointing first round exit, but to a solid opponent (and Borussia Dusseldorf teammate). Of the six Chinese players who come in, only Chuqin and Shidong are left – probably a disappointing show for China. Four Japanese players also had early outputs – nobody reached the second round. At this point, the upper half of the draw has one German and one Chinese player and another European (Lind) and one from Brazil. The lower half of the draw also has one German and a Chinese player and a few other Asians (Woojin and Yun-Ju).
The quarterfinals start on Saturday afternoon.
