Wrexham “Would Like” To keep Issa Kabore permanently, but his future has not yet been decided, reporter Graeme Bailey said.
Wrexham are starting to find their feet in the Championship as their new group group Gels.
The red dragons invested heavily again after promotion. It should perhaps produce better results in the early stages of the campaign, but Phil Parkinson’s side have made some notable improvements ahead of the international break.
A new player to hit the ground running is right back Issa Kabore, on loan from Manchester City.
As such, eyes are already on the possibility of the Burkina Faso International taking up permanent residence in Wrexham. Now reporter Graham Bailey has commented on this issue.
Speak against The Wrexham InsiderBailey has said the Red Dragons would ‘love’ to have Kabore on the books permanently. However, nothing has been decided yet at such an early stage of the season.
He said:
“Issa Kabore has been excellent for Wrexham, for them to drop him in the Championship was a major coup and they are delighted with how it has gone.
“Obviously Wrexham would like to keep him but nothing has been decided yet.
“City are keeping an eye on him and will assess it. Let’s not forget that City are not blessed with many right-back options, so could we see him getting a chance? Unlikely, but let’s see how things go in the coming months.”
Issa Kabore Performance Earns Early Phil Parkinson Praise
Bailey is certainly not wrong about Kabore being a coup for Wrexham. Despite being down the pecking order at Manchester City, he has played top-flight football his entire career.
After making his name at Belgian side KV Mechelen, he has enjoyed loans at Estac Troyes, Marseille, Luton Town, Benfica and Werder Bremen – all of whom played in their nation’s top flight.
The quality he possesses is not lost on Red Dragons boss Parkinson, who heaped praise on Kabore after his home debut against Derby County. Speaking last monthhe said:
“It’s his quality, but he fights for every ball, he comes back quickly, he’s a good defender and that was a goal that will be up there with the contenders for one of the best goals in the championship today.
“He plays with real heart and dedication. When we watched him, I really liked that about him.
“He runs back as fast as he goes forward. He’s tenacious, he wants to win and he’s a great signing for us.”
The key role Kabore can play in a successful Wrexham season
Over Parkinson’s successful tenure at Wrexham, wing-backs have been a crucial position.
In the boss’s 3-5-2 formation, the wing-backs often bomb up and down the flanks. They must boast a high work rate and impressive physical attributes to get through Parkinson’s work of theirs.

The early signs are that Kabore will do just that for his loan club. His early creative output will also be welcomed, given that he has beaten the assistant tally recorded at all his previous loan clubs (excluding KV Mechelen, where he was also a permanent player).
With Kabore impressing early, only time will tell if a long-term stay in North Wales awaits.
