The toss decision pays RCB handsomely
RCB captain Smriti Mandhana had no hesitation in putting Delhi to work and backing its pace attack to exploit the conditions. The move proved perfect as the new-ball bowlers extracted movement and bounce, making life uncomfortable from the start for DC’s star-studded batting line-up.
The early pressure visibly confused the Delhi camp, with wickets tumbling in quick succession and the momentum shifting firmly towards RCB within the first few minutes of the game.
Lauren Bell sets the tone with dream first by firing Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt
England pacer Bell provided a sensational opening that turned the match on its head. Bowling with pace, accuracy and movement, Bell struck twice and left Delhi reeling.
On the third ball of the first over, Bell walked away Lizelle Lee with a pointed yorker. Lee shuffled over her stumps in an attempt to tap the ball away but missed completely as the ball bounced off leg stump. The early breakthrough led to loud celebrations in the RCB camp and gave Bell immediate control.
Just two deliveries later, Bell produced an even more spectacular dismissal to send back Laura Wolvaardt. With a full seam-side delivery that swung sharply back in, Bell beat Wolvaardt’s drive and shattered the middle stump. The sight of two flattened tree stumps summed up RCB’s dream start and DC’s nightmare start.
