The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has been prepared and will take place in the January-February period as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be held in the February-March period next year.
Mumbai and Baroda are all set to host WPL 2026 matches
The Women’s Premier League 2026 will be the fourth edition of the Women’s League organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The first three editions of the competition were won by the Mumbai Indians Women (twice) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (once).

This time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to organize the Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches in Mumbai and Baroda in two legs, with Lucknow and Bengaluru being the other two cities in the fray.
The DY Patil Stadium, which recently hosted India’s historic Women’s World Cup win, is likely to host the opening match of the WPL 2026 as well as the first half of the season.
For the second leg of the Women’s Premier League, the teams will move to the Kotambi Stadium in Baroda, where the matches are likely to start around January 16.
“The BCCI has not yet formally informed the franchise owners but the venues are being discussed at an informal level. The five teams are expected to be officially notified of the venues during the WPL auction in New Delhi on November 27,” the report said.
Women’s Premier League 2026 starts on January 7
The 2026 Women’s Premier League is likely to start on January 7 with the final likely to take place on February 3 – although there has been no formal confirmation on the possible timeframe.
This new window has been decided for the big league as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be hosted by India.
All countries have also agreed on the January-February period for the Women’s Premier League to ensure there is no overlap with other competitions and international cricket.

The Women’s Premier League has accelerated this whole process – Sneh Rana
Recently, India Women’s World Cup winner Sneh Rana credited the Women’s Premier League for accelerating the development of young cricketers in India.
“The growth is starting in domestic cricket, especially now that matches are being televised. Young girls are watching and feeling motivated to represent their states. WPL has accelerated this whole process. Look at Shree Charani, she is new to international cricket but plays with so much calm. That confidence comes from sharing dressing rooms with great international players.”
We used to have to wait a long time for international tours because there were very few competitions. Now we regularly get the chance to play abroad, and that has made a huge difference. By playing on different fields and under different conditions, you learn how to adapt quickly. That exposure has really helped our development,” World Cup winner Sneh Rana said in a chat on JioStar’s Celebrating Champions.
