She came in early at 16 for 1 in the third over, and steadied the innings before taking complete control. She formed a match-defining partnership of 131 runs off 73 balls with opener Hayley Matthews, laying the foundation for a big total. The attack continued with a sturdy stand of 42 runs off just 25 balls with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as Mumbai accelerated sharply in the death overs.
“Yes, obviously I had seen a few players get out in the 1990s, so I didn’t want to repeat that. But I also wanted to score as many runs as possible for the team. I am very happy that we could reach that total, and personally very happy too,” Sciver-Brunt said after the innings.
She brought up her maiden T20 century in the final, subtly hitting Shreyanka Patil across the infield before getting lost in the moment. Sciver-Brunt removed her helmet and acknowledged the thunderous applause with her signature “T” celebration, a heartfelt tribute to her son, Theodore Michael, and a touching gesture to her wife, Katherine Sciver-Brunt.
“A little nod home. Katherine is obviously watching – well, hopefully. She’s actually a very nervous viewer, so she’s probably not watching, but she wanted a ‘T’ and she wanted me to get three figures, so here we go. I think it’s my first T20 hundred, so I’m really happy to have reached that milestone, and hopefully it’s not the last,” said Sciver-Brunt.
The all-rounder admitted that batting alongside Hayley Matthews is always fun and something she looks forward to when the opportunity arises. Sciver-Brunt’s memorable century also took her back to the top of the season’s charts.
“Yes, absolutely. Hayley will be so happy to come back after quite a long injury layoff and get a score like that. I really enjoy batting with her when I get the chance,” Sciver-Brunt said.
