After a disappointing opening day, the Indian campaign seemed to be back on the right track with an almost perfect day at the BWF world championships in Paris. Experienced campaigners PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy registered straight game victories to launch their operation in style on Tuesday.Closing a fertile day, mixed double pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde organized a brilliant comeback with an excellent 18-21, 21-16, 21-18 victory over WC NG and IC Leong of Chinese Taipei.Only the men’s double pair of RK Rethinasabapathi and H Amsakarunan confronted with reversal when they lost from Taiwan’s PH Yang and K Liu 15-21, 5-21. The world champion Sindhu of 2019 conquered a rusty start to Ousteren Bulgaria in Kaloyana Nalbantova 23-21, 21-6 in 39 minutes to enter the second round of the ladies.Later, Prannoy also won a clinical 21-18, 21-15 victory over Finland’s World No. 47 Joakim Oldorff. Just like Sindhu, Prannoy initially struggled, but then found his groove as the game progressed to complete the victory in 47 minutes. Two-time Olympic medal winner Sindhu looked completely out of the color at the start against World No. 69 Bulgarians, behind the first game behind and even went off a few games before he reached the opener on 23-21.

Survey

Which Indian player did you think had the most impressive performance on day 2 of the BWF world championships?

A series of abuse shots in the beginning saw Sindhu 0-4 behind. From 2-6, Sindhu has limited it to 5-7, largely because of the error-sensitive play of Nalbantova. Nevertheless, the Bulgarian kept the pressure on the Indian to go to 9-5. A well-placed shot followed by another precise return, Nalbantova saw a 11-7 benefit during the break. Sindhu returned and had a series of smashes unleashed, including those Cross-Court retours that are so successful in the past, to claw back to 12-12. Sindhu now takes Karupathevan Letshana from Thailand.
