MCC cites Law 30.1.2 in support of the third referee’s decision

In response to widespread debate online, the MCC referred to Law 30.1.2 of the Laws of Cricket to justify the call. The law states:

“A batter shall not be considered out of his/her ground if, by running or diving towards his/her ground and thereafter, and has grounded any part of his/her person or bat beyond the popping crease, there is subsequent loss of contact between the ground and any part of his/her person or bat, or between the bat and person.”

The MCC clarified that this provision only applies to players who are actively running or diving when the stumps are broken. In Muneeba’s case, she had already completed her run and was still at the crease, not moving. Therefore, once she voluntarily raised her bat and was not in contact with the ground, she was deemed out of her ground.
