Nick Woltemade was so furious with Gabriel Magalhaes because he had beaten him with an elbow that he refused to accept the apology of the arsenal defender.
The German striker opened the score for his second goal in three games since he became a member of the Magpies van Stuttgart in the summer transfer window.
But the Gunners fought back to score twice and secure a dramatic victory. Replacement Mikel Merino equalized with a header before Gabriel did the same deep in the extra time for the winner.
‘If you [concede] Two real late goals, it doesn’t feel good if you are 90 minutes 1-0 before you. Yes, it just doesn’t feel right, “Woltemade Sky Sports said after the full -time whistle.
Gabriel was still lucky to be on the field when he scored the decisive goal after the misery Woltemade in the face when the game resumed after the Newcastle goal. The frontman immediately protested with the middle behind and complained to the referee, Jarred Gillett, about the incident, but no action was taken.
“After the goal there was a situation that I felt his elbow in my face in two meters, so his arm must be really high,” said Woltemade.
“I don’t know, I just told the referee that I felt something in the face and I think it’s not good to feel something in the face, but I am not the type of player to fall for this. It is difficult because you sometimes have to do this, but this is not my kind of football.
“He said sorry after that, so I think he knew he hit me in my face. It didn’t solve the situation to be honest.”
Asked why he did not accept the apology, added Wolade: “I don’t like this, if you do some things in the game and then you say sorry for a few seconds, that is not part of the game. I like this situation where you can have a good fight, but his elbow should not be in my face.”
