The owner of the cleaning company has pleaded not guilty to ten tax charges, including tax evasion and filing false returns.

A Woburn man has been charged with multiple tax bills for allegedly underreporting more than $20 million in business income and evading more than $1.2 million in income taxes, prosecutors said.

Jean Brito, 47, pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Wednesday in Middlesex Superior Court to five counts of tax evasion and five counts of filing or signing false tax returns related to his business, according to the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Brito was released on the condition that he surrender his passport and not apply for a new one, limit his travel to the New England states unless he receives court approval and sign an extradition waiver, the prosecutor said. His next court date is set for March 18.

Prosecutors say Brito owned Boston Quality Cleaning Services, a Medford-based cleaning company, between 2018 and 2023 and underreported his revenues by more than $20 million. Investigators say Brito also evaded more than $1.2 million in income taxes during that time.

Investigators say Brito cashed checks payable to his company from check-cashing companies, rather than depositing them into the company’s bank account. He is also accused of providing incomplete financial information to his tax advisors, which led to inaccurate tax returns filed with the Treasury Department.

“From these false figures, Brito subsequently subtracted withholdings and significantly underreported his business income on his income tax returns filed with the Treasury Department,” prosecutors wrote in court documents. cited Through The Boston Sphere.

On February 4, state police detectives, assisted by agents from the Department of Revenue and FBI, executed search warrants at a home in Woburn and at the business in Medford. Authorities said they recovered about $35,000 in cash, along with documents and electronic devices.

According to the company’s website, Brito was founded Boston quality cleaning services at 1 Shipyard Way in 2002 after working as an office cleaner.
