WNYGVIH QUARTERFINALS: HURTS OVER WILLIAMSVILLE

HEWS advances to the semifinals after an 8-3 win over Williamsville last night at Buffalo State University Arena.

HEWS got on the board first with an unassisted goal from MacKenzie Benker. Immediately afterwards, three more joined: Brynn Holland, assisted by Liliana Smardz; Sophia Phillips, unassisted and Kylie Wegrzynowski, assisted by Morgan Cooper and Benker. The first period ends 4-0.

Williamsville General Illios scored a goal to start the second period, assisted by Allison Besancon and Megan Loretz. HEWS answered back with two goals; one of Smardz and Phillips and then Allie Schmirl had one in and then out and finally in, assisted by Ellie Grabowski. Williamsville closes the second period with a goal from Besancon, assisted by Addison Stachura, to close out the second-place tie at 6-2 in favor of HEWS.

Third period it was HEWS on board first with a goal from Phillips, assisted by Brynn Holland and Megan Cooper. Williamsville answers back as Illios gets one past Ella Buczynski, assisted by Anna Meyer and Besancon. HEWS responds with another goal from the Netherlands, without help. That ends the game with HEWS at 8-3 and advances to the semi-finals.

Buczynski stopped 8 of 11 for the win and Anna Bacon stopped 22 of 30 for Williamsville.
