He, 19, is in his fourth and final OHL season and had spent his entire junior career at Niagara prior to the deal. Through 28 games this season with the IceDogs, the former captain scored 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points. Overall, he has scored 102 goals and 193 points in 220 OHL regular season games.
We also saw him get some NHL preseason action with the Jets this year, where he looked fast and promising, an encouraging sign for his future within the Jets organization.
“An elite engine, that’s the source of He’s success. It powers every part of his game, including his non-stop presence in the forward line, his knack for stealing the puck at the blue line and explosive open-ice hits. It’s also the way he generates offense. He burns past defenders with powerful strides to get to the net, dropping the shoulder when necessary,” he said. Elite Prospects 2024 NHL Draft Guide.
That assessment feels just right. He is fast, and that speed makes him dangerous, especially up front. While he isn’t a huge presence at just 6-foot-4, he isn’t shy about throwing the body, which only adds another layer to the youth game.
It’s clear that Flint is going all-in this season. Acquiring a player in his final OHL year and paying such a price to do so signals a push for a deep playoff run. This is truly an “all-in” move, and one that should make the Firebirds a more difficult team to face.
