In a big surprise at Wimbledon on Friday, Madison Keys, the sixth seed and reigning Australian open champion, with 6-3, 6-3 defeated by Laura Siegemund in Germany, who is in the world 104th.
The competition ended so unilaterally that even experienced observers were amazed. With this result, only one of the top six women – no. 1 Seed Aryna Sabalenka – Rejoice in the draw. Sabalenka plays Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open -Winner later today.

Keys made 31 not – forced errors, compared to only 11 from Siegemund – a stat that told the story.
When the decisive backhand of Keys flew out, Siegemund jumped in the celebration.
“You can’t help it, but be happy if you beat a great player like Madison,” she said.
Before this year, Siegemund had a 2-5 record in Wimbledon, never beyond round two, although she reached the quarterfinals of the 2020 French open. On 37 she is now the oldest woman left in the tournament.
“Not busy,” she said. “I play for myself. I don’t have the feeling that I have to prove anything. My partner reminds me of that.”
Next to Siegemund, Solana Sierra, a surprising quarter -final from Argentina, is ranked at 101st and who entered the main drawing as a ‘happy loser’.

On Saturday at the Center Court, Iga świątek sees Danielle Collins, while Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are also in action. At no. 1 court, Hailey Baptiste faces no. 7 Mirra Andreeva, and no. 10 Emma Navarro plays title defender Barbora Krejčíková.
