The All England Club does not want to change the format of the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles competition for future editions of the championships, despite the success of the “re -conceived” tournament at the US Open.
This year, the United States Tennis Association chose to transform the size of the Mixed Doubles event to attract the top singles players, a Move officials believe that it was incredibly successful and with partnerships such as Emma Raducanu in combination with Casper Ruud.
The tournament was held for the men’s and ladies singles on a sold-out Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, with a total of 78,000 fans. It was eventually won by the champions of the previous year, the Dubbelpecialistensara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, but countless stars nevertheless expressed the hope that other Grand Slam tournaments would replicate the event. “I think it would be cool if all the slams would do this,” said Jack Draper, who reached the semi -final with Jessica Pegula.
Raducanu was exuberance in the same way. “It would be so nice if all the slams were involved and did something similar, even if it wasn’t exactly the same size,” she said. “I think it was a huge success. So many fans became involved, so many people watched and coordinated. It received a lot of attention.”
There is currently no appetite at the All England Club for the format of the mixed double tournament to change. The current set -up is considered an important part of the fourteen days of Wimbledon and double is generally more appreciated at Wimbledon, where each of the matches attract larger crowds during the tournament.
However, the success of the mixed event and the “fan week” of the US Open in New York has further illustrated how far Wimbledon has fallen behind the rest of the Grand Slam tournaments. In recent years, the Australian Open, French Open and US Open have become three weeks of events, each of those Grand Slam tournaments plan a large number of events during the qualifying week.
Wimbledon remains hampered by his fragile grass courts and the limited space in the All England Club, with the qualifying event that takes place more than three miles away in Roehampton. The organizers have tried to tackle this problem with his Wimbledon Park Project, which aims to transform the golf course of Wimbledon Park by the club into an extension of the tournamenter, so that the organizers of Wimbledon can organize qualification tournaments on site and explore his own version of a pre-tourament week.

The project, which would take many years to complete, had to navigate many legal complaints. The remaining obstacle is a legal process to determine whether there is a legal trust on the country, which means that the country must be used for public recreational purposes.
