Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said on Sunday that the India (ECI) election committee will make a decision about performing a special intensive overhaul (SIR) in West Bengal and other states at a suitable time. Kumar made the comment during a press conference in New Delhi when he responded to a question about performing the exercise in Bengal. The press meeting was held by Kumar, together with election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi to tackle accusations of voters fraud that were fueled by opposition leaders.

Kumar said during the press meeting on Sunday: “We three (elections) supervisory directors will decide at a suitable moment and make a decision about when SIR should be implemented in West Bengal or other states. It will be announced at a suitable moment.” In July the ECI had released the data from the SIR that was performed in West Bengal in 2002. The data includes 11 of the 23 districts of the state and 103 of the total constituencies of 294 state assembly. West bengal will conduct polls next year.
