The coming one Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26India’s premier List A tournament, kicking off on December 24, 2025, has become the focus of debate over the match fitness of two of India’s biggest stars: Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli.

With both players having opted out of Tests and T20Is, the BCCI and national team management have reportedly issued a firm directive: to remain in contention for the Indian ODI team – and possibly the 2027 World Cup – participation in domestic 50-over cricket is mandatory. Rohit Sharma confirms availability for Mumbai?

Reports have confirmed that Rohit is the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of his availability for the VHT, which starts on December 24. This proactive decision is in line with the BCCI’s guideline for players to maintain match fitness in the 50-over format, especially during the short window between India’s ODI series against South Africa And New Zealand. Rohit’s commitment is seen as a strong statement of his focus on the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle.

Virat Kohli’s participation is questionable

On the other hand, there is still no clarity about Kohli’s participation. Sources indicate that the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has yet to receive any official word from the star player, leaving his state team and fans in limbo. The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkarhave made it clear that the rule is non-negotiable for all players, regardless of status.
