There are certain destinations that are constantly lurking in the reedsas well as travel themes. Tobias and I like to look for beautiful walking routes on holiday. Our children? Maybe not so much. During family trips we usually find some kind of compromise. You know, a day at the beach here and a little walk there. You just have to give and take! Last summer we did some hiking in the Alps, the following summer we mainly hung out on the Greek beaches.
When it came time to plan this year’s joint family outing, there were a number of more or less serious proposals on the agenda, but nothing felt right. I don’t know if it was me or Tobias who finally pulled Madeira out of his coat sleeve. We intended to keep it for ourselves in the future, but it would definitely be even more fun to share the experience with the whole gang. We recently presented the proposal to the children – who actually took it!

We invest in being away for about a week and have explained to the children that they can walk a few times during the trip. The rest of the time they can relax as much as they want! Ideally we would have gone just after school as usual, but a floorball camp came along and ruined the plans. In fact, I don’t dare say hello at all – there is still a lot to be done before this journey is over. At least now there is a common direction to start from. Hopefully 2026 will be the year Madeira takes place! Oh, what a lot of googling in the intervening days.
Have you been there? Feel free to give tips!
