It was absolute chaos in Milwaukee.
A wild sequence of events unfolded in the top of the fourth inning when Brewers center fielder Sal Frelick had a homerun-robbing catch pop out of his glove, creating one of the craziest postseason moments in recent memory.
With the bases loaded and Dodgers infielder Max Muncy at the plate and one out, he hit a long ball toward the center field wall, sending Frelick on the hunt. The outfielder tackled the ball against the wall, but it flew out before he could gain full control of it.
Frelick quickly threw the ball to shortstop Joey Ortiz, who hit the ball to catcher William Contreras in time to force out Teoscar Hernandez at home.
The Brewers completed the miraculous double play by getting Will Smith at third for the final of the inning.
Frelick, likely mirroring just about everyone watching at home and at American Family Field, looked bewildered and tried to process what had just happened before smiling after realizing what had just happened.
The Dodgers disputed the call, but after a review, the umpires ruled the call stood on the field, upholding the force out at home plate and third base.
Because the ball came out of Frelick’s glove and went off the wall before falling back into his glove, the ball was considered live and not a fly ball, meaning the runners had to advance and set up force plays on each base.
Because the Dodger runners didn’t seem to know if it was a fly ball or not, there was confusion on the bases, allowing for the bizarre moment.
The Brewers went down in order in the bottom half of the inning and the game remained tied until Freddie Freeman put the Dodgers ahead with a solo home run.
