“Wicked: For Good” dominated its opening weekend and grossed an estimated $150 million at the domestic box office, according to early estimates reported by the Hollywood trade publicationsmaking it the second biggest premiere of 2025.

The sequel to last year’s ‘Wicked’ was once again directed by Hollywood stalwart John Cho, and also saw the return of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in their roles as Glinda and Elphaba in an adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical.
“Wicked: For Good” easily surpassed the opening weekend of the first film, which grossed about $112.5 million domestically.
“Wicked: For Good” was also successful internationally, grossing another $76 million for a total of $226 million.
It still wasn’t enough to dethrone “A Minecraft Movie” as the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2025: the adaptation of the wildly popular video game grossed more than $162 million at the domestic box office when it opened in April, and went on to gross more than $950 million worldwide.

However, ‘Wicked: For Good’ seems to be resonating with audiences – it got an ‘A’ CinemaScore based on polls taken after screenings, and receives an approval rating of 95% from the audience Rotten Tomatoes.

After grossing nearly $31 million in initial screenings on Thursday, analysts quickly expected “Wicked: For Good” to be a hit. Some estimates, including those reported by Varietypredicted that the film could gross anywhere from $150 million to $180 million in its opening weekend. “Wicked: For Good” opened Friday in 4,115 theaters nationwide and grossed about $68.6 million on its opening night alone.
