Such small quotes usually do not stay with me, at least not word by word. But this one did it, and it is something I have repeated for others since then.

I remind myself of those words when I feel that it is too familiar to fear of making a big decision of life. Whether that tries something new, releases something old, or just in the scary unknown steps. Yes, the comfort zone can feel nice, but it can also stop you.

Let’s not deny it, the comfort zone is beautiful. It is warm, familiar and free of risk. You know exactly what to expect. There are no ugly surprises. But that is also the problem. Are predictable. And nothing really exciting or life changes happens in predictable places, right?

Sometimes life gives us no choice but to leave the comfort zone, such as when we lose a job or someone we love. One day everything feels normal, and the next day the rug is pulled under your feet. But then there are those other times, the moments when you know deep down that something has to change.

Maybe you are on a job that you empty. It is not terrible, but it is not fulfilling either. Do you know there is more, but what if the next role is worse? What if you try to fail? Or maybe you are in a relationship that is safe but not really loving, and the idea of untangling your life (the flat, the shared dog, the well -known routines) feels too overwhelming to face.

So you stay. Because staying is easier.

Staying still is not the same as staying safe

We often confuse silence with safety. But let’s think a little deeper about that. Stagning water does not remain clear and calm, it becomes stinking and cloudy. The same applies to us. We are meant to continue to grow. To keep moving. Evolving.

If the earth would stop turning, life would not just pause, it would stop. If the oceans no longer move, they would become lifeless. If our hearts stop beating … you understand the point.

Growth comes from movement. Of change. Doing the thing that makes you afraid enough to mean something. That does not mean that we always have to do more. But if you feel stuck or uninspired, it can be a sign that you have outgrown the version of you that belongs in that comfort zone.
