Why Tough Fights Make Loopy Godinez Stronger: “That’s Why We’re Here”

Loopy Godinez isn’t interested in taking the easy way out.

Entering her fifth year under the UFC banner, Godinez has battled some of the biggest names in the strawweight division, including Virna Jandiroba, ex-champ Jessica Andrade and current 115-pound queen Mackenzie Dern.

She will face another tough test on April 11 when she returns to the Octagon for a clash with one-time title challenger Tatiana Suarez at UFC 327 in Miami.

“I’ve had some tough fights in the UFC and I love it,” Godinez said MMA junkie. “I think that really helped me grow as a fighter and as an athlete, and it taught me so many things. I believe I’m here because of those wins or those losses. When I lose, I feel like I’ve learned a lot, and because of the girls that beat me or I beat them, you can grow and that’s why we’re here.”

Loopy Godinez can break into the top 5 with a win over Suarez

Under the UFC banner, Godinez is a solid 9-5, with her longest winning streak at four. Unfortunately, that was negated by back-to-back losses to Jandiroba and Dern in 2024.

Since then, Godinez has returned with a pair of impressive unanimous decision wins over Julia Polastri and Andrade.

Meanwhile, Suarez is determined to return to the title after suffering her first career loss to then-flyweight titleholder Zhang Weili at UFC 312. The Covina, California native dominated her way back to the win column in September, defeating Amanda Lemos.

Suarez is currently the number two contender in the flyweight division, while Godinez sits just outside the top five and occupies sixth place.
