On X, Planet hinted on an upcoming announcement – “Tomorrow’s news will be a game-changer. Don’t blink – you might miss it!”

In a separate press release, the company said its subsidiary: Planet Labs Federalsecured a $7.5 million extension to detect and monitor ships in key waters of the Indo-Pacific, strengthening a long-standing partnership with U.S. defense stakeholders.

Planet will feed daily, higher-resolution global PlanetScope images and SkySat tasks into SeaVision, a web-based maritime awareness tool used by U.S. agencies and co-developed with the U.S. Navy.

The pipeline enables wide-area surveillance with the ability to zero in on emerging risks and share insights across partner networks.

Longtime partner SynMax combines its Theia analytics to flag potential ‘dark ships’ hiding or spoofing AIS signals, a capability designed to reveal smuggling, illegal transshipment and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Combining frequently repeated images with AI aims to convert social and commercial activities at sea into current, useful information.
