Alexander Isak and his surrounding teammates at Liverpool were shocked by a miss from Mo Salah.
The Egypt international, historically a heroic figure in the clashes against Manchester United, somehow failed to level the Reds in the second half.
United’s Bryan Mbeumo had opened the scoring, after a Virgil van Dijk error, in the opening minute of the first half’s action.

Florian Wirtz covered his mouth with his hands.
Fellow summer signing Alexander Isak was seen on his knees in slow motion.
Legendary Liverpool striker Mo Salah had missed every opportunity against Senne Lammens in the second half.

Footage from Sky Sports showed the number 11 picking up the ball just outside the six-yard box – unmarked hectares space – before firing the ball away from the goal into the crowd.

Don’t get us wrong: Salah has hardly been the only Liverpool striker to appear to have lost his scoring boots.
Both Isak and Cody Gakpo have been guilty of missing clear goals either side of half-time.
| Mo Salah stats | Cody Gana Stats | Alexander Isak statistics |
| Missed 1 big opportunity | Missed 1 big opportunity | Missed 1 big opportunity |
| 0.40 expected goals without penalties (xG) | 1.55 expected goals without penalties (xG) | 0.34 expected goals without penalties (xG) |

Liverpool’s attackers failed Arne Slot at Anfield

Any way you look at it, a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United – home to THIS Manchester United – is unacceptable.
The fact that we’ve had an international break to end a three-match losing streak may make this even worse.
In recent seasons, Liverpool could always count on at least one or two attackers being sufficiently deployed to allow their chances to flourish.
But it seems that every striker at Arne Slot’s disposal suffers from chronic inefficiency, perhaps overshadowing Liverpool’s defensive concerns at the other end of the pitch.
We should have secured the lion’s share of points, the statistics indicated we deserved that.
| Liverpool Stats | Manchester United Stats |
| 2.76 expected goals (xG) | 1.26 expected goals (xG) |
| 19 shots (6 on target) | 12 shots (4 on target) |
| 5 big opportunities | 5 big opportunities |
| Missed 4 big opportunities | Missed 3 big opportunities |

But we can’t keep looking at the stats game after game and wondering why the final product and results don’t quite match up.
Disappointing, again.
