UFC 315 showed a few surprises in the Bell Center, especially when Canadian fans experienced an intriguing fight of the night in which Jack della Maddalena became the new one UFC Welterweight Champion.
But who should be next to the 170 -pound belt?
Islam Makhachev
It was clear that during the UFC 315 Pre-Fight Press Conference it was determined with whom Makhachev would be confronted, depending on the result of the main event. If Muhammad had overcome in Canada, it was likely that the Dagestan would have defended his lightweight title against Ilia Topuria. But because Della Maddalena picks up the victory, the current #1 pound-for-pound hunter has his eyes focused on the welterweight title.

Makhachev certainly supplied with lightweight and earned the longest win-streak, while winning the most title in the history of the UFC 155-pound division. Because no one else looks like a tough challenge for the UFC light weight champion, it seems that a step up in weight class can test his dominance and test a better inheritance than his coach and former UFC hunter, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Shavkat Rakhmonov
For some hunters it takes years to get close to the title, but it doesn’t take long for Rakhmonov. The #3 welterweight candidate must still be undefeated with 19 victories and has stopped 18 of his 19 opponents, including submission victories about: Stephen Thompson, Geoff Neal and Neil Magny.
The Kazakhstan hunter was supposed to fight against Belal Muhammad for the 170 pound title on UFC 310, but due to an injury from the champion, Rakhmonov had to compete against the former teammate, Ian Machado Garry. Nomad was still triumphant, but would go the distance for the first time in his MMA career, win through unanimous decision, and be submitted almost in the final round.
The mixed war artist born in Shurchi is perhaps the upcoming challenger, after the winner of della Maddalena vs Makhachev, but the only thing he has to realize is that not only the title is on the line, but also his undefeated record.
Sean Brady
Although Brady has been under the radar of the MMA community and had not had the longest winning streaks compared to other top candidates, he has proven that he can beat the most difficult enemies in goodweight. The last three fights of the #2 are quite appropriate for earning a title chances after dominating Gilbert Burns for five rounds, Plus, who submit Kelvin Gastelum and Leon Edwards.
