The next domino to fall from New York is Vincent Trocheck

The Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta joined Sirius XM NHL Network on Wednesday with Steve Kouleas and Nate Thompson. He was asked about Artemi Panarin, who has now been traded. Who is the next player to leave? Is it Vincent Trocheck?

NHL Rumors: New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and the Toronto Maple Leafs

Nate Thompson: “Well, my question was about Artemi Panarin being traded to the Kings and the next level of players. I guess you would say about the Rangers potentially being traded, like a guy like Vincent Trocheck. What does the trade landscape look like now that he’s available?”

Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, you’re right. The focus is shifting now on some of their other assets and Trocheck is someone who is generating a lot of interest from a lot of teams. Carolina is in that mix. Maybe that’s where they’re shifting. I think Minnesota is on his radar or he’s on Minnesota’s radar. There are a few others.”

But you have him, you have Braden Schneider, who is generating a lot of interest. San Jose has been interested in him. There are other players on this team that I think are willing to listen out. The indication I got first and foremost is: Igor (Shesterkin) isn’t going anywhere, Adam Fox isn’t going anywhere. They would be willing to listen to just about anyone.

And with Panarin gone, yes, a shift, they obviously moved Carson Soucy last week as well. But I think Trocheck is the next prize, and he will provide a pretty solid return for the New York Rangers. His contract still runs for a few more years. Very attractive cap hit. He plays a good two-way offensive game and for a championship caliber team, this is an ideal 2C to bring in.

NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators turning to big-name players

So whether it’s Minnesota, Carolina or another team looking to shore up the middle, this will be an option those clubs can focus on now. From the Ranger side, and I have to imagine you’re looking at a two-to-three point return here, you’re talking about a top prospect, a high draft pick and an extra asset to strangle him from New York.

NHL Rumors.com Note: The New York Rangers have a valuable trade asset in Vincent Trocheck. While it would be difficult for them to get rid of him, not trading him would be a disservice to the letter that was being distributed. They need to make more moves than just take away two UFAs that were probably gone anyway. Trocheck has more value than Panarin. The Carolina Hurricanes need a center, as do the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Minnesota Wild. He would be a good piece for all those teams.
