The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the coaching staff for the upcoming tour by England by the India A Team. Former Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been appointed as head coach. He will be accompanied by Subhadep Ghosh of Assam, who will serve as the field coach, and Troy Cooley, who will take on the role of bowling coach.
Traditionally, VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), adopted the coaching responsibilities for the India A team or has been put in when the main coach of the main team is not available. This time, however, the BCCI Kanitkar has assigned the main coaching position, which marks an important step in its coaching career.
Who is Hrishikesh Hemant Kanitkar?
Hrishikesh Hemant Kanitkar, a leading left-handed Batsman and right-wing outdoor break bowler, is a former Indian cricket player who had a short but an impactful career in test and a day of international (ODI) formats. In his retirement in 2015, he distinguished himself as one of only three Batsmen to surpass 8,000 points in the prestigious Ranji trophy. In particular, he remains the only captain in the history of the tournament that has protected both the elite and the League titles.
The 18-member India A-Team is planned to leave for England in phases on 25 and 26 May. Their first four -day game against the England Lions starts on 30 May in Canterbury.
After this meeting, the team will enter into a second four -day game in Northampton from 6 June.
