Omaha Storm Chasers 8, Charlotte Knights 3 ((Status box))
When the season started in Charlotte, and even when the Knights recovered in the middle season to run again at .500, it seemed unlikely that the club would be buried in the International League, about 20 games too short of the Even Scala. Well, with another loss-now five right, now the knights are on the edge of exactly that cases, at 62-81.
To the honor of Charlotte, this game was much closer than the final score indicated, given four hunters in the dirt time of the eighth inning. That said, the knights kept the lead for about half of this game – the wrong half. Duncan Davitt had a solid start (first four innings, three hits) … until he did not do that (a horrible fifth and sixth, which hit him out of the box). The attack mainly consisted of two near-Mlbers who seem destined to make their pro-trips ended realistically at Triple-A, Tim Elko and Bryan Ramos.
The barons (81-56) are in the last grip of the late season, but played it cool on Saturday with a loss for the Shuckers. And to be honest, although not as formidable as Birmingham, Biloxi is also pretty good, at 73-64.
Riley Gowens started and became a bit scammed for him as usual with losses. Holding an enemy to two points and four hits about five innings must be good enough to bypass a defeat, if not winning. But the barons did not get the bats out of the Humidor tonight, with only six hits and two walks, together for 1-out-11 with Risp (and two of the hits were triples, so it took some work not to put at least two ticks on the board, yes).
Phil Fox continued his dominance in September, now with a second shutout appearance of two inning since he was promoted to the barons on 10 September.
