White Sox Minor League Update: 2 September 2025

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 6, Charlotte Knights 1 (Statcast Box)
It started with a bang when the shrimp launched a lead-off Homer to grab a 1-0 edge. Charlotte (59-73) replied back in their half with a bomb from Corey Julks, but then the bats of the knights went into hibernation and managed only three singles about the last eight frames with 14 strikeouts.

Starter Duncan Davitt, taken over in the Adrian Houser Deal with Tampa Bay, put together a strong August and went 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.06 Whip. Unfortunately tonight was a different story. Jacksonville jumped over him, tagged him for five points in the first three innings and took another in the sixth. The bullpen of the knights managed to stabilize the ship for the remaining 3 1/2 innings, but it was all for nothing because Charlotte’s attack was Mia.

Chattanooga Lookouts 4, Birmingham Barons 3
The barons (75-52) jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the second. After Braden Montgomery worked a one-out walk, Ryan Galanie hit a single and pushed Montgomery to third place. Moments later, Hurler Kevin Abel wrapped a count at a wild pitch that Montgomery gilded for the first run of the game. The barons held that tight 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when the looked out scored two. Birmingham was 2-1 behind and their attack was dormant to the top of the seventh when DJ Gladney hit a two-run four-pounder and turned the script 3-2.

Unfortunately, the bullpen coughed up late and gave up the tire point in the bottom of the eighth and the dagger in the ninth while the viewpoints of the barons ran 4-3. Righthander Riley Gowens had a great start for Birmingham. After a rocky start to the season, the Libertyville Initive was solid in July and August, so that only 13 earned runs in 50 innings allows more than 10 starts. He was great tonight and threw five shutout -innings. No complaints there.

Winston-Salem Dash 1, Greenville Drive 0
This was a wonderfully pitsted competition on both sides of the diamond. The dashboard (54-71) received their only count, thanks to a Jeral Perez explosion in the first, and that was the amount of their violation. Both line -ups stopped from there and only seven hits sprinkled during the game.

The WS arms spun a three-hitter, where Gage Ziehl set the tone out of the gate. Ziehl came to Chicago from the Yankees in the Austin Slater Trade in July. Ziehl was a round 4-pick (no. 119) for the Bronx bombers in 2024. The 22-year-old was nails: five shutoutinings with one lonely hit, two walks and four KS. The Relief Corps was equally impressive, with Morris Austin, Carson Jacobs and Phil Fox, only two boys reached in the last four frames.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 10, Augusta Greenjackets 6 (Monday)
Kannapolis (61-66) came out, picked up six points in the first two innings, sweep six bags and signed nine walks for a good measure. The ballers did not waste time in the first when Jordan Sprinkle stooped his way, stole second without blinking, and Ely Brown cashed in. Small ball, great results.

The ballers placed a five-spot in a wild second inning with three Doubles from Kaleb Freeman, Brown and George Wolkow, as well as two walks, a single, three more stolen base, a pocket fly and a wild throw. Phew. Nine ballers hit, six runs crossed and Kannapolis went to the races. By the fifth they had piled up four, the leadership stretched to 10-1 and the other boys sniffed for air.

Starter Jake Curtis did his work, hurled five innings and allowed one point on six hits, no free fit and six punchouts. Reliever Pierce George kept the light on with two clean frames. Then Blake Shepardson came in the eighth, and the wheels almost came loose by allowing four points, and he could not finish the inning. But the ballers had already built a fort, and even no bullpen -insertion could spoil it.
