On Wednesday evening, just like the one before, did not go well for the Cincinnati Reds. For the second night in a row they left Great American Ball Park with a loss through last place Pittsburgh Pirates. The loss of Wednesday saw Cincinnati bind the match in the second half of the 9th inning on a Tyler Stephenson Home Run Run, but lost in extra innings with a score of 4-3 when they left the bases full to end the game.
In contrast to Tuesday evening, the Chicago Cubs did not blown a big lead and lost to the Mets. New York was unable to win a comeback victory on Wednesday and their lead on the Reds remains a game that will come into play on Thursday. The Dodgers of Los Angeles also blew a run-up in Arizona on Tuesday with the Diamondbacks that played the victory of the Come-From-Behind. On Wednesday, the Dodgers gave a 4-1 lead on their way to the bottom of the 8th inning and saw that lead evaporate while Arizona scored three points to tie things. The competition eventually entered extra innings where Los Angeles would score the winning run in the first place of the 11th. That held the diamondbacks tied with the Reds in 4th place of the Wild Card Race – a competition behind the Mets.
The Reds have the Tiebreaker over the Mets and over the Diamondbacks in every scenario where they are bound with one or both for the 3rd Wildcard. That is very handy, but you have to be connected to do it and Cincinnati is not at the moment.
The Reds will finish their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon with a start of 12:40 pm et. They will then go out to record the Milwaukee Bewers for a regular season that ends a 3-game road trip. New York will finish their series in Chicago against the Cubs at 7:40 PM before they go to Miami to compete against the Marlins for their regular season-ending 3-game Road series. Arizona will organize the Dodgers in the last game of their series at 3.40 pm etcent before going to the West to compete against the San Diego Padres for the last three games of the regular season.
Fangraphs Playoff opportunities while I type this at 1:15 am, have the Mets at 61.7% to take the last wildcard spot. Arizona is the next with a chance of 20.5%. Cincinnati is there with a chance of 17.6%. The St. Louis Cardinals (78-81) and the Miami Marlins (77-81) are both still alive, but have a chance of 0.0% and 0.1% according to Fangraphs.
With four more games about the Cincinnati Reds, another game has to win than the New York Mets, but also win so many or more competitions as the Arizona Diamondbacks to secure the wildcard. If the Mets lose, the Reds and Diamondbacks only win one competition, and both the cardinals and Marlins win-I honestly do not know what that brings if all five ends at 81-81.
