At the present moment, Edmonton Oilers -Superster Connor McDavid will not be signed after next season. All options remain on the table for McDavid sign drawing with each team next season. A crazy but great idea would be for McDavid to sign with the Calgary Flames.
If this happened, the Flames would acquire their greatest superstar in history and become Stanley Cup chances. Let’s see what the Line -Up would look like with the addition of McDavid.
Forward core
If the flames could sign McDavid, he would immediately take over the forward core. His dominant attack would be something that Flames -fans have rarely seen about the existence of the franchise. Their current score problems would be resolved immediately with the addition of one player. This is what the Line -Up might look like if the flames would add McDavid:
Huberdeau – McDavid – Coronato
Zary – Kadri – Gridin
Farabee – Frost – Sharangovich
Coleman – Backlund – Pospisil
Some other potential attackers could be Sam Honzek, Aydar Suniev, Rory Kerins and William Stromgren.
Now this line -up may not look the best, but McDavid would make things so much easier for offense. Secondary scoring would hardly be necessary as much as it is now, and the Power Play would get a huge reliability boost.
The addition of McDavid would place the flames in an immediate win-now mindset. Flames General Manager Craig Conroy should add more skill to the Line -Up to increase the chance of a serious Stanley Cup. The above line -up would probably change after McDavid sign. The franchise seal would change immediately and require more skills on the Roster.
Timing is perfect
Looking at the organization as a whole, this would be a perfect timing for the flames. McDavid would participate for the last season in the Scotiabank Saddledome, hopefully some magical memories bring for the history of the building. Then Scotia Place would be open the next season, making Calgary a top place to play throughout the NHL. McDavid and Scotia Place in operation would be a sweet deal for good things. With these new additions in line, the Flames would have Alberta, while the oilers would probably crumble in a rebuilding.
The timing is also perfect for the core of the team. At this point Matt Coronato will have a few good seasons under his belt, Dustin Wolf will settle as a superstar goalkeeper, and Zayne Parekh will be the franchise defender. It works perfectly with the current young core of the flames. McDavid would need something for the younger guys, who might get their first taste of play -off hockey.
From a contract perspective, Coronato and Wolf have already signed team -friendly long -term contracts. At the moment the Flames have more than $ 11 million in CAP space available. McDavid can probably come close to whether more than $ 20 million per season at his next deal. If Conroy chooses to continue with a few bad contracts, such as Joel Farabee or Blake Coleman, McDavid could easily draw with the flames.
Do you think the flames should chase McDavid if he does not sign With the oils?
Enormous marketing option
It is clear that adding the best player in the NHL to the schedule of the Flames would offer perfect marketing option. McDavid and Scotia Place in Action would give the Flames a significant marketing benefit among hockey fans. Fans were able to visit the newest Arena in Hockey while watching the best hockey player in the world. It is a win-win situation for them.
The flames have always had some of the nicest threads in the NHL. Their characteristic home and road sweaters are fun as it is, but the blast sweater places them in their own competition. The surname McDavid on one of these would be incredible. The Flames Jersey would become even more popular, and McDavid’s would sell immediately.
Calgary has never been a “great destination” for NHL players about the history of the NHL. The rumor is that it is a boring city with little to offer. Getting a new arena and a superstar player would probably change that story fairly quickly. Signing McDavid was able to open the window for other good players to sign. A new winning culture is desperately needed for the Flames franchise, which has been mediocre for most of its existence.
Pacific Division Outlook
Looking at the entire Pacific Division, the Flames can easily take over when McDavid draws with them. Here is how each team would take care of the low season of 2026:
Anaheim Ducks: grow with a good core of young players.
Calgary Flames: On the rise with young talent and the best player in the NHL.
Edmonton Oilers: Lost a franchise player and probably go into a rebuilding around Leon Draisaitl.
Los Angeles Kings: probably go downhill if Anze Kopitar will be retired And Drew Doughty will be at the end of his career.
San Jose Sharks: Superb Young Talent, a few years away from fighting.
Seattle Kraken: sitting stuck with decent prospects and tons of Midden-Six attackers.
Vancouver Canucks: a mediocre team that may lose Quinn Hughes.
Vegas Golden Knights: perhaps the best team in the Pacific Division, although their core players are getting older.
A McDavid signing would make the Flames a serious threat in the division. The only team that may stand in the way of the Vegas Golden Knights. Fortunately, that franchise has little to no high-end young talent for the future. With McDavid, Parekh and Wolf who are at the forefront, the Flames franchise could have a large treat.
