The 2000s were a wild and magical time, at least for cars. More than 20 years in the past now (this is your sign to take ibuprofen today if you didn’t do that) when films such as “Superbad” and “Gladiator” flourished a nation and indie rock n ‘roll, the cars became wheel and also toaster. Today’s question looks at the not too distance and asks, what was your favorite car on the 2000-2009 market?
You now had Cult classics such as the Honda element and the evolution of Mitsubishi Lancer on the same roads as Hummer H2S. The Pontiac Aztek hit the scene in this decade, born too quickly in a world that would one day embrace the Funky SUV and Crossover. Long-life models such as the Nissan GT-R still wear the spirit of the decade ahead, and let’s not let our fallen brothers of Saturn, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Saab forget. There were still cars! Cars for sale! It was a good time.
My choice …
There is really a wealth of options to choose from, but I have always had a weakness for the Honda S2000. It was rare for me to see one in the magazine metal when I was a child, but when we visited my grandmother’s house in a chic part of the city every summer, her neighbor would ride the slick yellow convertible. This neighbor was not who you would consider as a traditional S2000 owner; She was dressed in the fifty, glamorous and lived a nice life of the insurance benefit of a dead husband. My grandmother thought she was cheap and lazy and that her bright yellow baby was sin because the neighbor “couldn’t” ride in the winter.
Of course, it should have had it, but she didn’t want salt and ice to ruin her pleasure-mobile. But explain that to someone who is practical to the point of joylessness. She also wrapped her hair in a silk scarf when she drove, which 15-year-old I found very chic.
It was probably the first time I had seen a woman in real life, a car as an object of pleasure and she was an inspiration for me to lead a life that would disappoint my grandmother – have cheap, fun and celebrate your dead husband by really living behind the wheel of an S2000. Too bad I would never find an affordable again.
