What is your favorite Audi? – Jalopnik

Audi unveiled the concept C on Tuesday, which not only gives an example of an upcoming electric sports car, but also the new design language of Audi focused on radical simplicity. It is inspired by things such as the original TT and Old Auto Union Race Cars, while they also look to the future, and I think it’s great. The concept C made me think about Audis in general, which easily led to today’s question: what is your favorite Audi?

Let’s talk specifically about production cars that were actually sold to customers, because if we record concept cars or racing cars, this would not be fair. (Maybe that will be a Qotd for another day.) But I will allow a wide range of reasons why you chose your favorite. It can be because of the design, the powertrain, the technology and engineering. You could just really love the baseball chairs of the TT and that is why it is your favorite. Bonus points as always if you have a good personal anecdote to go with your answer.

My choice

Although most modern offers from Audi have not really caught me, there are a lot of Audis that I really love. The beautiful first generation R8, the absurd Q7 V12 TDI, the Princess Diana-80 Cabriolet, every generation of TT, most generations of RS4 and RS6-all great cars. But my favorite is by far the Audi A2, the aluminum body, ultra-efficient city car that was sold in Europe from 1999 to 2005.

Set all the innovations of the A2 aside (and there were many at that time), and it still stands as an excellent piece of car design. Written by Luc Donckerwolke, the A2 looked like nothing else on the road. It had great aerodynamics thanks to elements such as the crazy roof line and sealed schedule, but the prominent fender flares and large wheels gave the better proportions and a sportier point of view than most city cars, and it was clearly an Audi. It came in interesting colors and also had a stylish interior. Despite getting praising reviews, the style of the A2 did not win many customers and it remained a reasonable niche product, although its influence cannot be overestimated. Audi is still trying to chase the height of the A2 and apparently works on an electric successor. I can’t wait to see it.

So, colleague Jalops, what is your favorite Audi and why? Let me know in the comments and I will collect my favorite answers later this week.
