What is it *really* like to sit on the bag for Vijay Singh? Former caddy explains

62-year-old Vijay Singh has had an incredible professional career, with 34 PGA Tour victories, including three major championships. Singh currently sits at No. 6 on the PGA Tour all-time money list, with $71.28 million in winnings. Singh is looking to increase that total even further on this year’s PGA Tour, where he used his exemption from the all-time money list for a 2026 PGA Tour card.

Singh has a reputation for being one of the game’s hardest workers, and on this week’s episode of Subpar, Kip Henley, who played for Singh in 2017, said he can attest to that. Henley even told Subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz that off weeks were more work than tournament weeks.

“Freedom weeks for Vijay, you go to Jacksonville,” Henley said. “He goes there, he’s at the gym at 6:30 and you show up at the shooting range at 6:30, with blue eyes, and he’s already sweated ten times and he’s ready to go.

This 62-year-old returns to the PGA Tour. Here is the rule that made this possible

“He is the most wonderful man I have ever worked with [for]’ he continued. ‘He taught me about discipline. I thought I was disciplined. I was hitting balls and practicing, doing all the hand bleeding and all that nonsense. Guy. I didn’t do anything about his work ethic. It was crazy.”

One of the most challenging things about working with Singh, Henley said, was the fact that Henley called himself “thin-skinned.”

“It was so hard to work for him because he’s brutal,” Henley said. “I’m thin-skinned. That’s the worst quality you can have as a PGA Tour caddy. That’s why I always got along with Colt and lasted 10 years with Brian Gay, because they weren’t mean, but he’s mean. He cuts you to the bone every day. But it was more awesome to work for him than anyone I’ve ever worked for.”

“He’s a great guy,” Henley continued. “Guys underestimated how good that cat was. If he was a good putter, he would have won them all.”

Henley also addressed Singh’s generosity, noting that when he was called upon to work with Singh during the off weeks, he stayed at one of Singh’s homes.

“You would never dig into your wallet if you were on Vijay’s team,” Henley said. “That cat, he buys everything. Most of Vij’s work is beautiful work.”
