What did the Boulders Resort & Spa multi-focus refinement project include?

The Boulders Resort & Spa Scottsdale (36-hole golf resort) has recently undergone a remarkable refinement project increase playability of his iconic Northern course.

The Noordbaan with a lot of excitement Open again for play on Monday October 13ththat invites golfers to experience the renewed charm and challenge.

During the five-month project, crews were restored green surfaces to their original shape and size. They re-covered them with TifEagle grass, reflects the green surfaces on the Boulders’ South Course (which completed a green renovation project in 2022).

TifEagle grass is an ultra-dwarf hybrid grass that provides improved speed, consistency, and playability as well as smooth transitions during seasonal weather changes.

TifEagle does not require overseedingwhich traditionally takes place in October in Arizona, further supporting water management efforts in the region.

In addition to the green renovation, the project also included improvements to all tee boxes, laser leveling and re-installation of tee boxes on the North Courseand all tee boxes on the par-four and par-five holes of the South Course.

The North Course improvement project is an exciting step forward, ffollowing the successful completion of various renovation initiatives at Boulders for the past three years.

This includes

• remarkable bunker renovations on both courses,
• the installation of new pumping stations,
• the renovation of greens on the South Course, and
• the renovation of the putting green.

Recent improvements at Boulders are also present

• fascinating new fall programs at Boulders Golf Academy,
• the addition of 12 new pickleball courtsAnd
• fall clinics at the Boulders Tennis & Pickleball Garden.

In addition, the appointment of David Benham as director of golf course operations brings strong leadership as he now oversees all golf programs, pro shop operations, course maintenance, the Tennis & Pickleball Garden and the Boulders Club membership.

Who is TifEagle grass grass suitable for?

TifEagle is especially suitable for golf clubs that meet the following conditions:

1. Warm seasonal climate / sufficient sunlight
   • TifEagle is one warm season grass (hybrid bermudagrass) developed in Georgia for placing greens in warm climates.
   • It performs best under strong light. Research showed that TifEagle required a daily light integral (DLI) of ~30–33 mol m⁻² d⁻¹ to maintain high quality grass.
   • Clubs inside full sun, southern regions (e.g. southern US, parts of Asia, etc.) are ideal.
2. Greens instead of ten fairways/tees
   • TifEagle is mainly used for the putting greensnot typical fairways or tees (unless exceptionally high-end and low-cut). For example, many sources say “used on golf greens and other areas requiring a cutting height of 1/4 inch or less.”
