West Virginia shot a team record -22 in the first round and leads with five shots after the first two rounds of the Island Resort Intercollegiate. WVU Second -year Ryan Leach led all players with rounds of 65 and 63 for a -16.

“If you had told me this morning that I would shoot 63 – 65, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Leach said after the second round. “I have still not been fully able to process it. It is probably one of my best days of Golf Ever.”

Leach, from Williamsburg, Virginia, said that all parts of his game worked on Sunday. Early success spent trust.

“I had trust in every tee box that I would hit the fairway. I had trust in every fairway that I would hit the green. I was convinced that every putt would go inside,” Leach said.

WVU second -year Nicholas Turowski arrived at -9 over two rounds; Senior Kaleb Wilson shot A -8; First -year Jack Michael contributed a -7.

“It’s so much nicer if everyone plays well,” Leach said. “Everyone is in a good mood and it’s cool to have all the guys celebrate.”

WVU assistant -Coach Will Koras praised the collective effort of the team.

“They worked very hard,” said Koras. “Since we have been to school, they (the coaches) have given everything we have asked them. It is probably the first time in my coaching career that we do not coach a mental attitude. These guys care a lot, work very hard, come out and compete.”

“They are fun to coach,” said Koras.

Koras also praised the wise run.

“The course is really good,” he said. “It is a bit disturbing than the scores are showed.”

Koras emphasized the interest in Sage Run to keep it in the fairway and to take advantage of the perfives.
