West Brom’s injury problems continue as Ryan Mason provides an update on four first-team players. News: The72 – Football League News

West Brom continue to treat and assess the injury problems of Alex Mowatt, Jayson Molumby, Krystian Bielik and Jed Wallace. Ryan Mason said.

West Brom have had a disappointing Championship campaign so far, sitting in 16th place at the halfway point of the table. It has put pressure on the WBA boss Ryan Masonwho has his first permanent managerial job.

The Baggies head coach is now also dealing with increasing injury problems. The Hawthorns’ small squad has been left bare in some areas, but especially in midfield.

As the Boxing Day clash with Bristol City approaches, Mason shared the latest about the current absences of Alex Mowatt, Jed Wallace and Krystian Bielik, while there was also an update on Jayson Molumby.

Vice-captain Mowatt’s injury is a case of pain management but he is yet to return, while Molumby’s ongoing issue is also being dealt with on a day-to-day basis. Wallace is still out of the group and Bielik needs assessment after withdrawing against Hull City and will miss the game against Bristol City.

West Brom had to pay for the small team risk

Whether it was intentional or not, West Brom started this season with a small first-team squad. This can have great benefits, as it creates a close-knit group that can use their relationships on and off the field to their advantage.

The risk of this, however, is that injuries will keep the ranks limited, and this is the position WBA finds itself in. Mowatt is a key player and a leader within the group, and if both are fully fit, he and Molumby are the ideal combination.

Wallace is another influential leader and given the struggles that are rife, it wouldn’t have been wrong to have him as a competitor. It is now hoped that Bielik is not on the sidelines as concerns grow over his blow.

Strengthening the ranks during the January transfer window feels like a matter of urgency. The Baggies will struggle to make the necessary progress if they do not provide Mason with sufficient squad depth.

Who will start in West Brom’s midfield against Bristol City?

Mowatt looks set to remain sidelined against Bristol City on Boxing Day. Molumby has remained in the squad and available to play, but he clearly has a problem.

As a result, Callum Styles has emerged from left back and moved to midfield. It is a position he has played a lot, including in the championship.

Ousmane Diakite was his partner and offered him a chance at a solid point in the squad. Barring a quick recovery for Mowatt and a strong turnaround from Molumby, Styles and Diakite are likely to return to action for WBA at The Hawthorns on Friday.
