A new goalkeeper is on the agenda for WBA. According to Football competition WorldSunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is on their radar as the Baggies eye up a loan deal.

Several Championship teams have been linked with Patterson, including Millwall, Leicester City and QPR. The Sunderland academy graduate has lost his place as number one this season following the arrival of Robin Roefs.

Sunderland looking for a potential replacement to free up Patterson?

Patterson will want to play regular football at this stage of his career. After three and a half seasons as Sunderland’s starting goalkeeper, Patterson finds himself in a new scenario.

Patterson is unlikely to regain his spot this season, so a move is likely. That said, WBA’s ties with the 25-year-old come just hours after it was revealed that Sunderland are in talks for a new goalkeeper.

Football insider have claimed that the Black Cats are in talks for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin. Sunderland wants to rent the experienced stopper until the end of the season.

It’s likely he would come in and take Patterson’s place as the backup. At 32, he is much more likely to be happy as a back-up, a role he played at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Finally an Alex Palmer replacement for WBA?

The Baggies have since changed with Josh Griffiths and Joe Wildsmith Alex Palmer left last January. Palmer joined Ipswich Town, who were playing in the Premier League at the time.

Neither Grittiths nor Wildsmith have really impressed as a WBA goalkeeper. That said, it’s no surprise that West Brom are eyeing a new number one in this window.

Patterson is a goalkeeper with plenty of Championship experience and a promotion on his CV. He would also reunite with Baggies defender Chris Mepham, who enjoyed an excellent loan at Sunderland last season.
