Weekly SPI is increasing by 0.02% – Mettis Global Link

June 5, 2025 (MLN): The short -term inflation of Pakistan increased by 0.02% compared to the last week, while it fell by 0.02% compared to the same period last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported Friday.

During the week, of 51 items, the prices of 18 (35.29%) items rose, 06 (11.77%) items broken down, and
27 (52.94%) Items remained stable.

Increase is observed in the prices of
Tomatoes (16.94%), potatoes (11.52%), onions (5.21%), bananas (1.57%), eggs (1.34%), sugar (1.24%), rice
Basmati broken (1.02%), gur (0.81%), pulse frame (0.65%), milk fresh (0.47%), pulsemash (0.46%), pulse
Gram (0.44%) and gasoline (0.41%).

On the other hand, a large decrease is observed in the prices of chicken (11.22%), garlic (3.71%), LPG (0.76%),
Vegetable tea 1 kg (0.24%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (0.10%) and cooking oil 5 liters (0.02%).

The trend on an annual basis shows a decrease of 0.02%. The most important increase is observed in women’s sandal (55.62%),
Eggs (35.36%), Puls Moong (31.74%), powdered milk (23.82%), sugar (23.51%), beef (17.51%), bananas
(17.29%), Pulsgram (15.91%), chicken (15.88%), LPG (15.31%), Vegetable Ghee 2.5 kg (13.56%) and
Vegetable ghee 1 kg (12.49%).

While a large decrease is observed in the prices of onions (64.90%), electricity
Costs for Q1 (36.54%), garlic (27.79%), potatoes (23.15%), tomatoes (18.10%), Pulmash (17.99%), tea
Lipton (17.93%), wheat flour (14.10%), pepper powder (5.74%), diesel (5.68%), rice irri (5.56%), pulse masoor
(5.47%) and gasoline (5.41%).

The lowest income group experienced a weekly increase of 0.28%, while inflation for the highest income group fell by 0.05%.

On an annual basis, analysis of SPI change in different income segments showed that SPI remained between 1.55% and 1.11% over all quantities.

The annual SPI for the lowest income group fell by 0.75%, while the highest income group increased by 1.11%.

The average price of SONA Ureaum amounted to RS4.460 per bag of 50 kg, with 0.16% compared to last week’s price and a decrease of 6.03% compared to last year.

In the meantime, the average cement price fell to RS1,412 per bag of 50 kg, which is 0.40% lower than last week, and 12.52% higher than the prices last year.

In the short term, PBS calculates inflation with the help of the SPI every week to assess the price movement of essential raw materials with a shorter time interval to revise the price situation in the country.

SPI consists of 51 essential items that are collected from 50 markets in 17 cities in the country.
