Weekend warmer

Weekend warmer

It was a busy week for Derbyshire with a lot happening. Blair Tickner was man of the match twice against England, which couldn’t happen to a nicer man, while I’ve had plenty of messages asking who I’d like to see as bowling coach.

To be honest, I don’t know because I have no idea who could be available for such a role. I saw that former England all-rounder Craig White had left his role as bowling coach at Lancashire, but I have no idea whether that was because he had an offer from elsewhere, or just wanted a change. There will be plenty of interest in the Derbyshire job, as I wrote recently, and they may want to rework it to allow specialist input on a consultancy basis, perhaps bringing in the likes of Steffan Jones and Graeme Swann to different groups. It is a blank canvas and they will be free to use it as they see fit.

No other news from me today, except that I will be clearing out some of my collected memorabilia from over 60 years. I think the time has come to do it and anything to do with Derbyshire I will publish here.

First up is a lovely miniature cricket bat in almost pristine condition, signed by the 1990 Derbyshire side that won the Refuge Assurance League. Signed by the likes of Kim Barnett, John Morris, Chris Adams, Devon Malcolm, Ian Bishop and Adrian Kuiper, it’s a chance to own a little piece of Derbyshire cricket history.

There is a small crease to the club sticker at the top but this does not detract from an excellent item.

The bat is on eBay here and it would be good to see it go to a fellow Derbyshire fan!

Finally, I will be doing the sponsorship draw for the cricket books in the next 24 hours. Anyone who wants to let me know their preference has until tonight to send me an email.

See you next week – or as soon as there is more news!
