Week 10 Buy/Sell: No Christmas present for Naughty Lu

2 minutes, 13 seconds Read

Using the iconic line from the Christmas movie that plays on repeat on most TVs this time of year: Merry Christmas, filthy animals! The article is later than usual as I apparently have a life and commitments outside of fantasy that I sometimes need to attend to, but still in the same week to claim this is the week 10 buy/sell.

Despite the festive Christmas spirit, Lu Dort was a bad boy with this play in the Thunder’s third consecutive loss to the Spurs.

The Western Conference playoffs will be very interesting if these two teams ever cross paths

Regarding last week’s suggestions, we had a problem in Houston as only Marvin Bagley III was usable, while Dean Wade and Jordan Walsh failed to deliver the goods. And if your most successful suggestion is Marvin Bagley III, there’s a problem whether you imagine him as a fantasy add, the best curly hair in the league or the best reason for Vlade Divac to be cut for his No. 2 pick in that draft.

Buy

Egor Demin: Historically, my confidence in rookie point guards to provide fantasy value is below zero, but you can ride the hot hand every now and then and see where it will take you and that’s exactly what we can do with Demin. His last games are 2 good games played over 30 minutes and with 4 games in the next 7 days this is a great opportunity to roll the dice on him (11% ownership).

Brook Lopez: Don’t add in Lopez expecting 9 triples per game like he did yesterday against Portland, but as long as Ivica Zubac is on the sidelines and starting, he could be a solid option for the rare combination of triples and blocks (15% ownership).

Precious Achiuwa: A combination of a favorable schedule, as he plays three times in the next four days, and opportunity, as Keegan Murray will join Domantas Sabonis on the sidelines, makes Achiuwa a valuable asset for deeper leagues for traditional big man stats. Sorry, the pun was too obvious and I had to do it (6% ownership).

To sell

Ausar Thompson: While his twin brother Amen is flourishing in a role well-used in Houston, Ausar doesn’t get a similar leash from coach Bickerstaff, who is a big fan of distance. As expected, Ausar cannot really provide that, bringing his playing time to an average 26.6 minutes per match. I’m not saying drop him, as he’s still a positive contributor in the defensive categories with 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks, but in a shallow league his 0.2 triples, 55% from the line on 3.7 attempts, and only 11.9 points could be a dealbreaker (90% owned).
