Americans wolf every day 2 pounds of sugar on a mission to lose weight.
Known as the ‘Sugar Diet’, supporters only eat sugar, such as candy, raw cane sugar or fruit during the day – before they dive into a protein -rich meal during dinner. And although it sounds contraindic, influencers claim that they turn up to 50 pounds on the extreme diet.
Breakfast consists of bananas sprinkled with sugar or jam mixed with maple syrup and blueberries, while lunch is a bag of gummy bears or sour patch children and snacks are Starburst, Twizzlers, lemonade with extra sugar and a bowl of sugar -spreading fruit.
Before dinner, Dieters finally dig in real food and have a lean protein such as turkey breast next to green vegetables and some potatoes.
Influencers claim that the extreme food plan gives them amazing results, stubborn fat and reveal their six-pack abdominal muscles.
And scientists say that there is actually the method for madness, although they make it clear that it is not the sugar that causes the weight loss.
Instead, they say that remembering proteins – in which participants receive less than 10% of their calories from the source every day – probably delivers the weight loss.
The sugar, on the other hand, can help to reduce a fall and keep someone in a calorie deficiency – but it is not without disadvantages such as a potentially higher risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Cole Robinson, shown above, is one of the individuals who push the ‘sugar diet’ on social media. He says he has lost 22 pounds about the diet in seven weeks. He also pushed the ‘snake diet’ online, who tells people that they only have to eat in a window of one to two hours. Experts have warned the Leday for the diet

Above is a maker of the content called the name Skeleton City Online. He says he has lost more than 65 pounds for a year and a half after the diet

People report a drastic weight trap after participating in this diet for just a few weeks
Dr. Nick Norwitz, a metabolism expert in Massachusetts, said that the Daily Mail Studies suggest that limiting protein intake causes weight loss and can ensure that the body burns 400 extra calories per day, even without added exercise.
He pointed out a study among young, healthy men, who discovered that restrictive proteins to 9% of the nutritional calories caused an increase of 19% in energy consumption.
This is probably because it is reduced the cells of the body, he said, causing them to burn more calories.
The Sugar diet was made popular online for the first time by YouTubers, including Cole Robinson, who previously founded the Snake diet, that people tell people to eat only every day in a window of one to two hours.
He now shares messages because of his report of people he claims to have tried the sugar diet, including a man who reportedly lost 14 pounds in four days.
YouTuber and Weightlifter Mark Bell have also promoted the diet and post more than 15 videos about the Rage Online that transport titles such as ‘Get Ripping with Sugar’ and ‘Sugar Fasting Works’.
Also among those to try the diet is YouTuber Lucas B, who was already skinny but still lost 2 pounds in a week.
“This is a bit crazy,” he said, “if you think about the classic way we thought of sugar – I usually had 500 grams of carbohydrates of sugar, and I still lost. That’s crazy! ‘
Another person who goes online to Skeleton City and asked for his real name not to be used, The Daily Mail said that he has been on a diet for a year and a half and has so far lost 65 pounds.
He said that the results were ‘great’ and his health has been ’10 out of 10 ‘on the diet. He said that he always had ‘amazing energy’, ‘never grumpy or hangry’ and ‘Got Amazing Sleep’ as followed by his Garmin.
His wife, who also asked not to be mentioned, is also on the diet and has so far lost more than 50 pounds. She said she was skeptical in the beginning, but was also very happy with the results – saying that she now has the feeling that she looks better and has better energy.
Someone else who said he lost 31 pounds in 31 days, said the effects were amazing and that it was hungry.
“It was crazy, it was crazy,” said the person who passes Dear Truck’n on YouTube.
“I have never had a course of energy, I never had a low, it was just constant energy, constant, and I wasn’t even hungry.”
Scientists point to one March 2025 Study To explain how the diet can work.
The small investigation included eight healthy men in the twenty, whose diets were followed for three months. While no one ate a food diet during the study period, but they have limited their protein intake, of which researchers said they made it similar to the sugar diet.
In the first five -week period, they ate a diet of 8% protein, 71% carbohydrates and 21% fat.
And in the second they ate a diet of 16% protein, 57% carbohydrates and 27% fat.

YouTuber Lucas B., depicted above, said he lost to 2 pounds after following the diet for a week. He said his waist then became narrower and that it was an ‘amazing’ result

Another YouTuber posted the above transformation online, of which they said

In both cases, their bodies burned about 20% more calories – or 400 extra calories per day in a standard 2,000 calories diet – daily at the end of the diet, even though there has been no change in training routines.
Researchers said this proved that it was a lack of proteins that caused the shift, because shifting the share of calories from carbohydrates and fats did not change the results.
“It was really the protein restriction that caused the weight loss,” said Dr. Norwitz.
‘People can formulate with sugar. Why do they do that? Because people love sugar. ‘
Instead of sugar, he said they could eat vegetables or follow the high-fat keto diet.
He said it would probably not be safe to follow the new diet after a few weeks because of the potential disadvantages, including blood sugar peaks that increase the risk of diabetes.

Participants have called it one of the nicest diets they have ever experienced
They also said that it might not work for obese individuals or people who already have diabetes.
Dr. Hector Perez, a bariatric surgeon in Mexico, warned people of the diet and told the Daily Mail that ‘your body deliberately overloaded with sugar to lose weight, as trying to cure a sunburn with a tanning bed. It is completely backward and frankly dangerous.
‘Of course, some people can initially lose water weight by shocking their system, but in the long term they play with fire.
“You will ultimately crash your energy level, activate insulin resistance and even develop prediabetes that chase internet hacks.”
Doctors also pointed out that food studies that support the protein restriction for weight loss were only carried out among healthy young men, and that it was not clear whether the diets would have the same effect for older adults, women or people with underlying disorders.
