WaveWatcher’s Fourth Harness Racing -victory yesterday brought Milestone Win Number 50 or Oamaru -trainer Eion Latimer on Phar Lap Raceway in Timaru in Timaru.
“It took me twelve months to get it! The voice was a bit painful,” said Latimer.
Five -year -old Downby theseaside Money Wavewatcher and Driver Olivia Thornley were able to secure the path for the entire journey behind racing favorite McKendrick before he fully carried out the passing track, with McKendrick being granted to win half a head on the line with a four-length margin back to Betterthababe in third place.
“We’ve beaten some bad songs lately. He just can’t go when it’s wet. We have placed a hood on him to wake him up a bit.”
WaveWatcher has been a long -term project and is somewhat a villain in his earlier years.
“Robbie Holmes broke him in and I got him back as a three -year -old.
“He was a bit of a handful, but he has really grown up a lot lately. He raced then a two -year -old then was injured.”

Raced by Eion and his daughter Jacqui, WaveWatcher has always shown a lot of competence and the victory offered a very satisfying moment for the Latimer family.
“We hardly work it. We race in a weekend, take two days off and just jog the rest.
“In one of his earlier starts for me, we walked fourth behind We Walk by Faith in Oamaru and established a track record.”
“We are going to Oamaru following the 19th.”
Latimer has held a trainer license since 1985 with a few years away between 1995 and 2000, with usually a small team.
His most memorable moment so far was with the victories of War Horse Motu Speedy Star in the Waimate Cup 2011 and the Kurow Cup 2012.
“The Waimate Cup was especially good because he paid $ 100! He only paid $ 50 when we won the Kurow Cup,” laughed Latimer.
Motu Speedy Star won 10 races under the supervision of Latimer.
Latimer trains from his Oamaru basis just next to the Oamaru rack with daughter Jacqui who keeps an eye on things.
“Jacqui does all the food and groundwork. She makes them all on the racing day and I just lean back and look.
“Her and I go to Australia for the Miracle Mile every year.”
Thornley’s victory with Golfwatcher brought her driving profit to 99.
In the meantime, Hadron Collider gave a emphatic victory in the Tyre General Timaru Summer Cup for Amanda and Hayden Cullen, which concluded a successful weekend before the training couple.
Earlier in the day, Samantha Ottley had a story to tell when she was tipped after 100 meters in Race 7 from Zoom X, the Empire Hotel Social Club Handicap Pace. Shortly after the start, Clonakilty, sideways, galloped to Ottley, who was then thrown away. The race was canceled and then repeated with Ottley and Zoom X who won from Clonakilty and Carter Dalgety, who heated death with riptide.
Jonny Cox, who after the first attempt the loose zoom X, also had a very successful day, riding and training two winners – the promising Trotter Prestigious won the first, and ideal conqueror who went back for Cox for his third start for the shed.
